Vision Therapy
A structured, supervised program of visual exercises, prism lenses, tint evaluations, and therapeutic services to treat binocular vision disorders, amblyopia, and visual processing deficits.
Vision therapy is a personalized, evidence-based program of therapeutic activities and exercises designed to improve the function and efficiency of the visual system. It addresses conditions that cannot be fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses alone, including convergence insufficiency, amblyopia, strabismus, and visual processing disorders. Our vision therapy programs go beyond simple exercises. They incorporate a full range of clinical tools and services tailored to your unique visual profile: • Prism Lenses: Prescribed to realign the visual system, reduce double vision, and ease the strain caused by eye misalignment. Prisms can be incorporated into your glasses prescription for full-time wear or used therapeutically during sessions. • Tint Evaluations: Some patients with visual processing disorders, photosensitivity, or post-concussion symptoms benefit significantly from precision-tinted lenses. We evaluate your response to different tint colors and densities to identify lenses that enhance visual comfort and clarity. • Glasses Prescriptions: Many patients in vision therapy benefit from updated or specially designed spectacle prescriptions — including low-plus lenses, prism corrections, or anti-fatigue designs — that support the goals of therapy and reduce visual stress between sessions. • In-Office Therapy Services: Structured weekly sessions using specialized equipment including vectograms, anaglyphs, prism bars, balance boards, computerized programs, and monocular and binocular activities designed to build the visual skills your brain needs to work efficiently.
Under the supervision of our optometrist, you complete a series of in-office therapy sessions and assigned at-home exercises using specialized equipment such as prisms, lenses, filters, balance boards, and computer-based programs. Programs typically range from 12 to 36 weeks depending on the condition being treated. Your program may also include a tint evaluation to determine if precision-colored lenses improve your visual comfort and performance. Prism lenses may be prescribed as part of your glasses to support the visual realignment being built during therapy. Throughout the program, your glasses prescription is reviewed and updated as your visual system responds to treatment — ensuring your corrective lenses always support rather than hinder your progress.
Vision therapy treats the root neurological and motor causes of visual dysfunction — not just the symptoms. Patients often experience significant improvements in reading fluency, attention, hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and the ability to sustain focus, with benefits that are lasting and transferable to everyday life. By combining in-office therapy sessions with precision prism lenses, targeted tint evaluations, and an optimized glasses prescription, we address every aspect of your visual system — from how your eyes move and align to how your brain processes what you see. This comprehensive approach leads to more complete and durable outcomes than any single intervention alone.

you make an informed decision.
Who might consider this treatment?
Vision therapy is most often recommended for children and adults with convergence insufficiency, amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus, or visual processing disorders that affect reading, learning, or focus. It's also an excellent option for athletes looking to sharpen visual performance and reaction time, and for patients who have been told they need prism in their glasses but want to address the underlying cause rather than rely on prism correction indefinitely.
What is the typical experience?
Each vision therapy session is engaging and individualized. You'll work through a variety of exercises using specialized tools, lenses, prism equipment, and computer-based activities — guided by our optometrist and support staff. We'll also evaluate whether precision tints or updated glasses prescriptions can enhance your progress between sessions. At-home exercises reinforce what's built in the office.
How long does it usually take?
In-office sessions typically last 45 to 60 minutes and are scheduled weekly. Full programs range from 12 to 36 weeks depending on your condition and rate of progress. Prism and tint prescriptions may be issued early in the program or adjusted as your visual system improves. We monitor your outcomes regularly and adapt the program accordingly.
Is there anything to keep in mind?
Vision therapy requires consistent participation and effort between sessions — the at-home exercises are an integral part of the program, not optional extras. If prism lenses or tinted glasses are prescribed as part of your plan, wearing them as directed is equally important. Patients who engage fully with every component of their program consistently achieve the best outcomes.
What should I know about recovery after?
There's no physical recovery needed after vision therapy sessions. Some patients feel mild mental fatigue after an intense session, similar to learning a new skill — this is normal and improves as your visual system grows stronger. If you're prescribed prism or tinted lenses, there is typically a brief adaptation period of a few days as your eyes and brain adjust to the new correction. Most gains made through vision therapy are lasting.
