Children's Eye Exams & Screenings
Specialized eye exams designed for children to support healthy visual development and school-readiness.
A children's eye exam is a pediatric-focused evaluation that assesses your child's vision, eye alignment, and overall ocular health. It is tailored to the developmental stage of your child's eyes and is appropriate from infancy through the teen years.
Our optometrist uses child-friendly tools and techniques to test visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, and eye tracking. We also screen for common childhood conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes), and check for any signs of eye disease.
Good vision is fundamental to learning and development. Detecting and correcting vision problems early helps children perform better in school, develop stronger reading skills, and enjoy a full range of activities without visual strain or discomfort.

you make an informed decision.
Who might consider this treatment?
We recommend eye exams for children starting around age 1, then again at age 3, before starting school, and every year after that. Children who struggle with reading, seem to avoid near or distance tasks, or have been flagged at a school vision screening should be seen promptly.
What is the typical experience?
Our team is experienced at making young patients feel comfortable and at ease. We use age-appropriate tools and games to gather the visual information we need, and we take as much time as your child needs to get accurate results without any stress.
How long does it usually take?
A children's eye exam typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your child's age and cooperation. We build in extra time for younger patients so nothing feels rushed.
Is there anything to keep in mind?
Children often don't report vision problems because they assume everyone sees the way they do. Come prepared to share any concerns about your child's behavior, reading habits, or school performance — these details are valuable clues for our optometrist.
What should I know about recovery after?
No recovery is needed after a pediatric eye exam. If dilation drops are used, your child's vision may be blurry for a few hours, so plan transportation accordingly and avoid activities requiring sharp near vision right after the visit.
